SIP-03: No new CosmWasm contract deployments

Existing CosmWasm contracts and IBC message paging remain unaffected, as legacy Cosmos infra is gradually wound down

SIP-03: No new CosmWasm contract deployments

The latest upgrade in the SIP-3 transition is now live on mainnet. Today, validators accepted a proposal that effectively disables new CosmWasm contract deployments. Existing CosmWasm contracts are not expected to be affected by this upgrade. For end users, the network should continue operating as normal.

This is part of the Sei protocol’s broader transition to an EVM-only architecture by gradually winding down legacy Cosmos and CosmWasm functionality. With this proposal now active:

  • New CosmWasm code uploads will fail
  • Attempts to instantiate new CosmWasm contracts will fail

IBC inbound and outbound transfers remain enabled. However, Sei users are encouraged to check their wallets for assets that may need to be swapped or bridged before IBC message passing functionality is disabled, as this may result in loss of access to affected assets.

Those assets include:

  • USDC.n
  • USDT.kava
  • Wormhole-bridged assets: USDCso, WETH, USDCet, USDCop, and USDTbs
  • ATOM
  • WBTC
