Sei Labs Proposes EVM-Only Architecture in Recently Launched Governance Framework

Sei Improvement Proposals (SIP) aim to simplify architecture and accelerate growth across EVM developer ecosystem

NEW YORK - May 7, 2025 - Sei Labs today submitted a new Sei Improvement Proposal to deprecate CosmWasm and native Cosmos transactions in favor of a streamlined, EVM-only architecture. Sei Improvement Proposal-3 (SIP-3) is the second SIP that the new Sei Improvement Proposal process has seen since being established and would simplify Sei’s infrastructure and developer experience while aligning the protocol more closely with the broader Ethereum ecosystem.

“This SIP demonstrates Sei Labs's commitment to supporting a truly participatory design process for the Sei protocol,” said Jay Jog, Co-Founder of Sei Labs. “As EVM usage continues to dominate activity on Sei, this proposal reflects a clear path forward: a streamlined, EVM-first architecture designed to scale the next generation of DeFi, gaming, and real-world applications.”

The proposal comes on the heels of the recently launched Sei Improvement Proposal framework, a standardized, open governance process introduced via SIP-1. The SIP framework empowers developers, validators, and users to propose, debate, and implement changes to the Sei protocol in a transparent and technically rigorous way - supporting a more decentralized and community-driven future for the network.

The SIP framework introduces a standardized lifecycle for protocol upgrades – from idea submission and community review to final implementation. The first ecosystem SIP has already been submitted by Silo Finance, proposing Maximum Extractable Value (MEV)-enhancing functionality through offchain transaction bundles, signaling early adoption of the process by ecosystem contributors.
