SIP-3 Wallet Upgrades are Live

Since the passing of SIP-3 in June 2025, the teams from Sei Labs and the Sei Development Foundation have been carefully working with the Sei ecosystem to prepare the network for the upgrade from a hybrid network supporting CosmWasm and EVM, to an EVM only network.
As part of that process the CosmWasm components of the chain will be deprecated and users must ensure that all funds stored in self-custodial Cosmos-only wallets are transferred to self-custodial wallets with EVM addresses.
Wallet upgrades are only necessary for users of two wallets: Leap and Keplr.
Today, in accordance with SIP-3, the SIP-3 Wallet Upgrade Tool is now available in the Sei app, allowing users to seamlessly upgrade from Cosmos-only wallets to EVM wallets.
Who needs to upgrade
This upgrade is essential for all users who have funds stored in self-custodial wallets that only support the Cosmos ecosystem on Sei.
Users with funds stored via an EVM or Cosmos wallet that supports the EVM, such as Compass or MetaMask, do not need to upgrade.
Because most wallets support the Cosmos and the EVM, this upgrade is only necessary for users of the wallets: Keplr and Leap.
If you are using another Cosmos wallet and want to check whether it supports the EVM, see the following questions:
What does your wallet address look like?
The old Sei Cosmos only addresses are 45 characters long and start with the word sei, such as: sei10clzgllmngym5jyz3dpqsxu2x0p5533j7937yw
Ethereum addresses are 42 characters long, and always start with the characters ‘0x’ such as: 0x88222220GD7278Aa3Ddd389Cc1E1d165CC4BAfe5
What chains does it support?
If the wallet allows you to add chains like Ethereum, Base or Unichain, it supports the EVM. A full list of EVM chains can be found at Chainlist.
If the wallet DOES NOT let you add any of the EVM chains, but only allows you to add Cosmos chains, such as Axelar, Band or Osmosis, it does not support the EVM and you will need to upgrade. A full list of Cosmos chains can be found on Atomscan.
How to upgrade

To upgrade simply connect your original Cosmos self-custodial wallet AND the new EVM self-custodial wallet that you want to transfer the assets to. Then select the assets you wish to transfer and click upgrade.
Please note: users can always transfer assets held in their Cosmos-only wallets to an EVM wallet using this tool even after the CosmWasm support is deprecated.
Progress towards SIP 3
The full implementation of SIP 3 is expected within the next six months. A detailed timeline is available below. As progress is made this timeline will be updated.
What happens next
As more and more users upgrade, Sei Labs will prepare for full deprecation of the CosmWasm network elements, at which point Sei will become EVM only.

Please note: the Sei Network is non-custodial. Users hold assets on the Sei Network via self-custodial wallets, and neither Sei Labs, the Sei Development Foundation, nor the Aster Foundation own or control the Sei Network and/or user funds.
