The Sei Foundation's Vision for 2025

Vincent Van Gogh once said that “great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” This has been our story at the Sei Foundation over the past year. While the foundations of the Sei community have been firmly established and our technology has set new standards with Sei V2 and EVM compatibility, much of our most important work – building and supporting a thriving ecosystem – has not been amplified. We’ve been heads down shipping.

Today, that changes.

A New Chapter

The Sei ecosystem has outgrown its ‘promising newcomer’ phase; it’s matured into something more substantial: a steady and maturing chain of activity. This evolution brings the Sei ecosystem to a critical juncture. Our focus at the Sei Foundation now shifts decisively towards more aggressive growth, progressive decentralization, and forging lasting partnerships with those who share our vision for blockchain's future.

It feels timely to share the Sei Foundation’s vision for 2025. We’re no longer building in fear of the day’s headlines. We can count on greater regulatory clarity in the United States and a fresh wave of optimism for exploring new frontiers. We are all entering an unprecedented period that should be grasped with both hands. But the Sei ecosystem isn’t ultimately about the Sei Foundation team. You, Sei community, developers, builders, pioneers, are the main protagonists in this story. We invite you to seize the opportunity and explore new horizons with us.

The Opportunity Ahead

We're entering a defining moment for crypto. Recent events have returned  mainstream attention to our space. This isn't just another hype cycle – it's an opportunity to demonstrate what high-performance blockchains like Sei can actually deliver. The next wave of builders won't tolerate the limitations of yesterday's technology. They expect applications that match or exceed web2 performance. But transformative opportunities don't manifest on their own. They're built, piece by piece, by visionaries who see beyond the current limitations. 

This is where you come in.

Building What Matters

Crypto remains a frontier, but not in the way most people think. It's not about flashy marketing or empty promises. It's a testing ground where real innovation either delivers value, or it doesn't. At the Sei Foundation we’re looking for trailblazers and human catalysts who understand this – who stick around when the hype fades because they're driven by the potential to create something meaningful.

To meet the demands of these ambitious builders, the Sei Foundation is  carving out  three essential archetypes that will be pillars of the ecosystem.

Builders: The Leaders of Innovation 

Builders form the backbone of our decentralized future. They're the engineers, developers, and visionaries who create the protocols and tools that drive real innovation - not just building features, but shaping what's possible in web3.

To date, our approach to supporting builders with Foundation resources has been deeply intentional and strategic. Through close, hands-on collaboration with teams, we've provided direct grants and targeted growth resources. These relationships have given us profound insights into the authentic needs of web3 developers and our community.

In 2025, we're expanding this framework. We're taking everything we've learned from these close relationships and scaling our support to give the innovators, developers and pioneers the resources they need, from picks to shovels, across the entire ecosystem. This translates into more accessible pathways to capital, from traditional grants to community-driven retroactive funding. It means meeting the community where they are, by establishing new connections through hackathons and technical challenges. Most importantly, it means ensuring that every builder who wants to create something meaningful on Sei has access to the resources they need.

We understand that different builders have different needs. Some teams require technical guidance to optimize their implementations. Others need connections to potential users or partners. Many need help navigating the complexities of building in web3. Our expanded framework will address all these needs, creating clear access points and guideposts for builders at every stage of their journey.

The Sei Foundation’s mission is not to dictate the future, but to empower you - the builders - to create what you believe should exist. The Sei Foundation is here to support your vision, not define it.

Creators: Crafting Culture and Content

In the blockchain space, Creators - artists, designers, and storytellers - translate complex technology into compelling narratives that drive attention and mindshare. They are a vital part of any ecosystem.

We started the Sei Creator Fund and the quadratic funding rounds operated by Gitcoin as a response to this belief that creators are fundamental in any community. Every nation starts with narratives.

So far over five hundred creators across various disciplines have been awarded over three million Sei tokens, with matching donations coming from the community through more than 42,000 donations from 22,000+ unique donors.

The interest in these Gitcoin rounds exceeded our expectations, and inadvertently became the primary way for the public to engage with the Sei community. We still have strong conviction in the role that Creator Funding plays in overall ecosystem development, but we are focused on ensuring that these Creator opportunities are positioned as a complementary opportunity to the new initiatives we launch and the continuing mandate we have to attract and serve Builders.

In furtherance of this goal, we are over-indexing this year on more high signal programs and opportunities for Creators from our community to participate in overall ecosystem development. As we announced earlier this year, we are allocating up to $250k to our Sei Street Team program to put our most passionate community members front and center at industry events around the world.

Contributors: Shaping Products and Community

Innovation in web3 extends far beyond code. The Sei ecosystem thrives because of leaders, community managers, researchers, and educators who make us stronger than a sum of our parts. Contributing isn't about technical expertise – it's about participation, feedback, and early adoption.

The key criteria for being a Contributor is a willingness to engage, provide insights, and be an early adopter of emerging technologies. We're committed to supporting these ecosystem pioneers through various initiatives that recognize their crucial role in blockchain's evolution.

Throughout 2025, we'll be rolling out programs that deepen community involvement, including:

  • Early access programs for alpha testing
  • Creator accelerator programs
  • Research participation opportunities
  • Expanded feedback channels

The future of Sei rests in the hands of these three diverse pioneers - Builders, Creators, and Contributors working together to transform blockchain's potential into reality.

The Path Forward

Our industry is at a pivotal moment. The technical foundation is laid, the tools are maturing, and the regulatory landscape is evolving. What we need now are the visionaries, pioneers and trailblazers who will determine what comes next.

This is the Sei Foundation’s focus for 2025: creating an environment where technical innovation meets practical adoption. Whether you're developing sophisticated DeFi protocols, building AI integrations, or helping others understand what's possible in web3, your work here matters.
